Kristina Dulaney, RN, PMH-C. Postpartum Psychosis Survivor and Cherished Mom Founder
The Only Survivor-Led Organization Focused on Preventing Trauma and Tragedy of Pregnancy and Postpartum Psychosis
Cherished Mom was born out of lived experience. Co-founder Kristina Dulaney is a registered nurse and a postpartum psychosis survivor. She's shared her story nationally, including on Dr. Phil, and has supported moms on the national Maternal Mental Health Hotline.
You can join Kristina and a caring community to play a part in making sure:
More partners and family members recognize the warning signs.
More healthcare professionals are equipped to identify and respond.
More mothers receive support without fear or stigma.
More everyday conversations replace silence with hope.
Prevention doesn't happen by chance. It happens because people like you choose to invest in it.
We Shouldn’t Have to Wait for a Tragedy to Start Preventing Maternal Suicide
Imagine a new mom coming home from the hospital. She’s overjoyed. The nursery is ready. The tiny socks are folded and put away.
Monthls later, it's 3 a.m., the house is quiet, and something has shifted. The exhaustion doesn't lift. The fear won't quiet down. She’s has strange and scary thoughts that frighten her.
Meanwhile, she smiles at visits, says she's fine, and tells no one, because how could she say it out loud?
Her doctors are kind, but they don't know what to look for. She doesn't know where to turn.
You know her. She's a neighbor, a coworker, a sister, a friend who always seems to have it together.
No one asks the question that might let her answer. So the weeks pass, and the weight gets heavier, and she carries it alone.
Today, suicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant and postpartum women in the U.S., and it has escalated over the last five years.¹
If we lose her, we lose a mother, a partner, a daughter, a friend. And a child grows up without her.
But the good news, an estimated 80% of these deaths are preventable.
The entire story changes with the right prevention and intervention.
She's screened early and often. Her family knows the warning signs before a crisis hits. Support is waiting when she reaches out, as normal a part of postpartum care as a checkup.
We won't save every mother. But every mother we reach in time changes everything for the people who love her.
Join [Program Name] as a monthly donor and be the reason she's not alone.
Your participation will provide:
Stability: We can plan our education and outreach with confidence instead of pausing between campaigns.
Readiness: We keep warning-sign resources and training available so support isn't delayed until the next awareness day.
Momentum: Monthly gifts keep our hospital, healthcare-provider, and survivor-community partnerships moving forward, all year.
Most maternal suicides don't happen in the first weeks after birth. Research shows 62% occur between 43 and 365 days postpartum — well after the standard six-week checkup ends. That's why Cherished Mom's education doesn't stop at delivery. Steady, year-round support matters more than a single awareness campaign.
