Postpartum Psychosis Awareness Day

Dear Maternal Mental Health Stakeholder,

On behalf of Cherished Mom, postpartum psychosis survivors and other like minded organizations, we ask for your support to declare the first Friday in May (May 5th, 2023) as Postpartum Psychosis Awareness Day.

Postpartum Psychosis occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 deliveries in the first few weeks postpartum. The onset is usually sudden, most often within the first 2 weeks to 3 months postpartum.

Of the women who develop postpartum psychosis, experts suggest that there is approximately a 5% suicide rate and a 4% infanticide rate associated with the illness.

Women, families and care providers are often blindsided by a sudden psychosis during pregnancy and/or in the postpartum period.  Our greatest tools in the fight to save lives and prevent trauma are education and awareness. With your support, we can continue to increase public awareness of Postpartum Psychosis and prevent tragedies. We welcome your organization to join us in spreading education, advocacy and awareness by joining us on May 6, 2022 for Postpartum Psychosis Awareness Day.

We’d like to welcome you into our circle of supporters and ask that you make a donation, share your story and help us raise awareness around this rare but serious condition!
